NORWALK, Conn. – The tenants of a second-floor apartment in a house on Ridge Street were displaced by a fire Monday evening that ripped through the unit’s kitchen and dining room, Norwalk firefighters said.

No injuries were reported in the 5 p.m. fire, and all of the building’s occupants got out of the structure safely, according to Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control, which was visible from a second floor window as engines and ladder trucks arrived.

Rhe cause of the fire “appears to be from a discarded cigarette,” but department personnel was still investigating, Shay said in a statement.
