Norwalk Firefighter Charged With Stealing Equipment From Department

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk firefighter has been accused of stealing equipment from the Norwalk Fire Department, according to police reports.

Jason Penna, 40, of Weston has been charged with third-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny by the Norwalk Police.

Jason Penna, 40, of Weston turned himself in after learning of a warrant for his arrest Thursday morning, police said. Penna has been charged with one count each of third-degree and sixth-degree larceny.

Norwalk Fire Department officials contacted police in early February about missing equipment from Rescue 1, a front-line rescue truck, according to police reports. The missing equipment included a Little Giant-brand ladder, a grip hoist with strap, and a trailer hitch extension, police said in a press release Friday.

The Norwalk Police Detective Bureau investigated the case and identified Penna, a 16-year veteran of the fire department, as a suspect, according to police reports. He was released on a promise to appear in court after his booking Thursday. His arraignment is scheduled for March 14 at Norwalk Superior Court.
