After releasing a request for proposals for firefighting testing consultants and reviewing the proposals, the Fire Department will hold a series of stakeholder meetings Wednesday, July 29, to allow partners to meet with the recommended consultant, CWH Research Inc., to help ensure the city’s needs will be met.

Stakeholders invited to the meetings consist of internal and external partners, including the NFD recruitment committee, firefighters and union executive board, the mayor, Common Council members, Board of Fire Commissioners, church leaders, the NAACP and Latinos Unidos.

The day will wrap up with a public meeting at 4 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall.

“The time to prepare for a new firefighter test takes months and includes many partners and the entire department,” said Fire Chief Denis McCarthy. “In order to proceed with the selection process and continue our goal of transparency and engagement, these meetings will provide an invaluable and critical perspective as we move forward.”

Once the test consultants have been selected, the Fire Department can determine the date of the next written test and the application process. When these pieces are in place, the active recruitment phase will begin. Several firefighters and officers have volunteered to assist with outreach and recruitment, and the department will continue to work with community partners to help encourage residents to register and prepare for the upcoming test.

Programs to help residents study for the written test and prepare for the physical test will be offered.
