NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk City Hall was briefly evacuated on Wednesday after smoke was reported emanating from Common Council chambers, according to the Hour.

Firefighters responded to City Hall on East Avenue at around 11:15 a.m. after the smoke was reported, according to the Hour. The building was evacuated while the Norwalk Fire Department searched for the cause of the fire, the Hour reported.

It was determined that the smoke was caused by a burning belt in the City Hall HVAC system, according to the Hour. Once the building was cleared, employees were allowed back into the building, the Hour reported.
