New Law Aims To Protect Norwalk's Crossing Guards

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk police are reminding residents a new law protecting crossing guards goes into effect Oct. 1.

Under the new law, motorists must stop 10 feet before the crossing guard on any public or private road where a crossing guard is on duty. Those that fail to comply can be fined $100 to $500.

Even if a police officer is not on duty, a crossing guard can provide a written report with license plate number, make and model of the vehicle and a citation still can be issued to the owner.
