NORWALK, Conn. – Keith Preston, 28, has been identified as a suspect in a stabbing early Thursday afternoon in South Norwalk, police report. They add that the victim had crack cocaine and marijuana in his possession. And in the course of the investigation, police arrested another man on unrelated charges.

Julio Velez, 31, of 28 Martin Luther King Drive, walked into police headquarters at 12:42 p.m. with a stab wound to the stomach area, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where police found 38 small bags of crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana in his possession, Cotto said.

Police found a trail of blood at the corner of Chestnut and Monroe streets and interviewed witnesses in the area. They subsequently stopped a vehicle and arrested one of its occupants, Frankie Herrara, 25, of 7 Pleasant St., and charged him with four counts of probation violation. Bond was $40,000.

Detectives have obtained an assault first-degree warrant for Preston, Sgt. Tom Roncinske said.

Velez was released from the hospital at around midnight, taken to headquarters and arrested, Cotto said. He was charged with illegal manufacture/distribution/sale of prescription drugs and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Bond was $25,000.

Anyone with information regarding Preston can contact Det. Louie Giannattasio at 203-854-3191 or at lgiannattasio@norwalkct.org.

The area around the police station has always had voilence yet the day of this last stabbing there was plenty of officers on the street in fact most of the streets had extra details doing traffic light work and cars were sitting right there in plain sight by the school. You have to ask how safe can it be?

After
Norwalk police headquarters moved in 2005 to South Main and Monroe
streets, next to the station, crime decreased, Rilling said. “Every
morning and night, I see dozens of people walking to and from the train
station feeling a sense of security about the area,” Rilling said. “If
people are seeing issues, I invite them to talk to me.” 2008

“An immigrant was attacked and robbed at knifepoint Saturday evening by
five men on South Main Street near police headquarters”
Velez said the robbery was particularly brazen “because they hit him
right around the corner” from the police station at South Main and
Monroe streets. This was written by Noelle Frampton March 2008

The problem with Harry was he never read the news.
