NORWALK, Conn. – Keith Preston, 28, has been identified as a suspect in a stabbing early Thursday afternoon in South Norwalk, police report. They add that the victim had crack cocaine and marijuana in his possession. And in the course of the investigation, police arrested another man on unrelated charges.

Julio Velez, 31, of 28 Martin Luther King Drive, walked into police headquarters at 12:42 p.m. with a stab wound to the stomach area, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where police found 38 small bags of crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana in his possession, Cotto said.

Police found a trail of blood at the corner of Chestnut and Monroe streets and interviewed witnesses in the area. They subsequently stopped a vehicle and arrested one of its occupants, Frankie Herrara, 25, of 7 Pleasant St., and charged him with four counts of probation violation. Bond was $40,000.

Detectives have obtained an assault first-degree warrant for Preston, Sgt. Tom Roncinske said.
