Julio Fuentes, 27, was charged with unlawful completion or reproduction of a credit card, third-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery, illegal use of credit card and fourth-degree larceny. He was held on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court July 24.
Police were called to the Best Buy on Connecticut Avenue at around 7:15 p.m. on a report of forgery. When they arrived, they spoke to staff, who said that Fuentes has attempted to buy a camera, memory card and carrying case worth a total of $1,629. The license plate and credit card that he attempted to use to make the purchase were believed to be fake, according to police reports.
Fuentes initially told the officer that they were his, but later said that they were not, according to police. He told police that somebody had flown him up from Miami to Hartford and, given him a fake ID and five fake credit cards, and put him up in a motel for several days. He did not tell police who had done all this for him. He was then placed under arrest.
