NORWALK, Conn. – A 22-year-old Texas man was robbed of his wallet containing $300 in cash early Thursday after he and a friend were accosted by a group of people on Haviland Street, Norwalk police said.
The Texan, who was visiting the friend, had just left a bar on nearby Washington Street a little after 2 a.m. when the two were approached by two men, one of whom asked for money, police said. When the Texan pulled out his wallet, the man grabbed it from him, police said.
Both the Texan and his friend tried to wrestle it back from the man and a scuffle ensued among the four people, police said. At least two more people, a man and a woman, also joined in the fracas, police said.
The assailants made off with the wallet and fled on foot.
Police said the man who took the wallet was described as an African-American man, about 45 years of age, who stood about 6 feet tall and weighed about 175 pounds.
