Terrance Burden, 33, was charged with criminal attempt at third-degree sexual assault, second-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree assault, interfering with a 911 call, disorderly conduct and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on $15,000 bond and appeared in court Tuesday.

Officers were called to a Maple Street home at about 8 p.m. Monday after receiving a report from a resident that Burden had tried to rape her, police said.

The woman, Burden's ex-girlfriend, said they had agreed Burden could come over and visit with their children, according to police reports. When he arrived, she believed he was under the influence of drugs and an argument ensued, police said.

Burden wanted money from her, and he grabbed her by the arms and pushed her toward the bedroom, according to police reports. Burden kept forcing himself on her and restraining her, and when she resisted he jumped on top of her, police said. She tried calling 911, but he took the phone and threw it across the room, police said.

The woman was able to fight Burden off, and he left the house, according to police reports. He also took her car keys, police said. The woman called the police, who searched the area and found him underneath the Route 7 overpass and took him into custody, police said.
