NORWALK, Conn. – A 59-year-old Virginia man was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexually assaulting a child in Norwalk several years ago, police say.
Edwin Espinosa, of Manassas, Va., was extradited to Connecticut and arraigned Tuesday in Norwalk Superior Court. His case was transferred to Stamford Superior Court Part A, where more serious criminal cases are heard.
Norwalk Police said they learned about the alleged incident when Espinosa tried to reconnect with the victim and the family reached out to authorities. Espinosa is a family acquaintance who had moved to Virginia, police say.
With the cooperation of the Manassas Police Department, the Norwalk Police Department Youth Division investigated the case and applied for an arrest warrant for Espinoza, they say.
Espinosa was charged with sexual assault first degree and risk of injury to a minor and held on a $50,000 bond.
