NORWALK, Conn. – An intoxicated man was arrested early Sunday after punching a stranger in the face in a Norwalk Inn hallway, Norwalk Police say.

Thomas Sweeney, 49, of Williamsport, Pa., was walking through the hallway when he saw an adult brother and sister cleaning up ice that was scattered on the floor, Sgt. James Boff said. He asked, "Is someone ice skating?" He subsequently punched the man in the face, Boff said. He also hit the woman twice in the face.

Sweeney said the man had walked toward him and he felt threatened, Boff said. The woman jumped on his back after he hit her brother and he hit her, too, he said, according to the account.

Police were called at 1:59 a.m. Sweeney was charged with two counts of assault third-degree and disorderly conduct. Bond was $2,500.
