As the 33-year-old woman reached for a cereal box at the Grade A market on Hope Street at 1:30 p.m., she felt something brush her posterior and looked behind to see a man crouched behind her, Sgt. Kelly Connelly said. Connelly said the upset woman told the man to go away.

A store worker noticed what happened and alerted the woman to what the man had done, and police were called, Connelly said. The man was found at the nearby laundromat after the incident, Connelly said.

As he was questioned, the man told police he had bent down behind the woman and kissed her.

"I kissed her rear end," he allegedly confessed to the police.

Charged with fourth-degree sexual contact is Wendell Woodroffe, 37, of 1078 E. Main St. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on June 17.
