Police had attempted to arrest 18-year-old Angel Garcia on Wednesday after an investigation into drug sales, but when he saw officers approaching him in a parking lot on Connecticut Avenue, he pulled out in his car and drove off, the Hour reported. In the process, he hit another car and almost hit an officer, police told the Hour.
Garcia was spotted on foot in the area of Michael Street, and after a brief foot pursuit offers were able to take Garcia into custody, the Hour reported.
While police were chasing Garcia, lockouts were ordered at the nearby Brookside School and Brien McMahon High School for a brief period of time.
Garcia was found with cash and crack cocaine tucked into his pants, and he was using the car he was driving without permission, according to the Hour.
Garcia was charged with evading responsibility with property damage, use of a motor vehicle without permission, interfering with an officer, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, disobeying the signal of an officer, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, according to the Hour.
