Eyewitness descriptions varied of the robber, who may or may not have been carrying a handgun, police said. One witness told officers they saw a man with a gun pull on a ski mask before the entering the store, and another witness said the man did not display a weapon and only pulled a hoodie over his head, police said.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. when the robber entered the store, demanded money from the clerk, took the cash register drawer and ran out the rear door, according to police. Details of how the man obtained the drawer were not disclosed.

Police used Kimbo, one of the department’s K-9 officers, to search the area, but the robber was not found, police said. Detectives are studying surveillance videotape for clues, police said.

Thursday night’s robbery was the second gas station robbed in Norwalk in a 24-hour period, police said. Early Thursday, the 7-Eleven in the Shell gas station at 247 Main Ave. was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by a lone assailant, police said.
