NORWALK, Conn. --The Norwalk Fire, Police and Public Works Departments, along with Norwalk Hospital EMS, will sponsor a free open house and Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Public Works Center and NFD Training Tower on South Smith Street.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All four departments will feature hands-on activities, give-aways and demonstrations for all ages. Children and adults will learn how the city departments prepare and respond to all types of events to keep residents safe and explore different fire, police and public works vehicles.
The Norwalk Fire and Public Works Departments have been sponsoring annual open houses for more than a decade. This is the third year the Norwalk Police Department is sponsoring the event, and the first year that Norwalk Hospital EMS is joining. In 2016, more than 2,000 visitors came to the event.
The departments will also sponsor a food drive in support of the Open Door Food Pantry in South Norwalk as part of this year's open house. All visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, especially peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, soup, and kid-friendly snacks. Last year, approximately 800 pounds of food was collected.
The event will be held rain or shine. Light refreshments will be provided. For questions, contact Norwalk Customer Service at (203) 854-3200.
