The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries in the 4:45 a.m. accident and was transported to Norwalk Hospital, Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott said in a statement at about 7 a.m.
Traffic was jammed as contractors from City Carting worked to clean the spill the southern side of the ramp's merging lane, the statement said.
State and Norwalk police were on the scene, controlling traffic and investigating the cause of the accident.
Contractors were called in to load the trash into other trucks and to pump out the 200 gallons of diesel from the fuel tanks, Prescott said.
An official from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was also responding to supervise the off-loading of the fuel before the truck could be up righted.
Parkway Auto and Nat’s Towing were using their heavy duty wreckers to pull the truck from East Avenue to assist the cleanup before working to upright the tractor and trailer, Prescott said.
