The four girls -- all between the ages of 14 and 16 -- were charged with breach of peace and conspiracy, police said. Each was issued a juvenile summons. The girls' names were not released due to their age.

At 3:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the beach on a report of a large fight, police said. When they arrived, officers encountered a crowd of 50 to 100 people in the lot near Ripka's Restaurant, according to police reports.

Officers began dispersing the crowd and searching for people involved in the fight, police said.

They found a 37-year-old woman and her two daughters, ages 14 and 15, police said. One of the daughters had been hit in her right eye, which was nearly swollen shut, police said. An ambulance was called and the girl was taken to Norwalk Hospital, police said.

The mother told police that she had been walking with her two daughters when they were approached by four girls who wanted to fight her daughters. She said that this was not the first incident like this, and that they had also encountered the girls at the Memorial Day parade that morning, police said.

The group of girls then attacked the daughters, leading the woman and her kids to defend themselves, police said.

As the mother was speaking to officers, she spotted three of the girls who were involved near the miniature golf course and pointed them out, police said. The girls attempted to run but were quickly apprehended and identified, police said. The fourth girl was also located nearby and taken into custody, police said.
