Gari-Mark Thomas, 38, a former Norwalk resident now living in Michigan, was accused of committing fraud while a loan officer for Suntrust Mortgage in 2008. Thomas filed fake documents with a lender and the Federal Housing Authority on behalf of his girlfriend, which made it seem as if she had a job and assets she did not have. The documents include phony pay stubs, tax forms and bank statements, according to the release.
Thomas used the documents to get approval for a mortgage for his girlfriend on a Stratford home. The woman later defaulted, causing the FHA to lose $184,000, Daly said.
Thomas pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the Federal Housing Authority in U.S. District Court in Hartford on Tuesday.
His sentencing is scheduled for April 23. He faces a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison.
