The first crash involving a white GMC Sierra pickup truck with a canteen food trailer occurred at about 7:15 p.m. in a Woodward Avenue parking lot, police told The Hour.

The victim took a photo of the license plate and gave it to police, The Hour said.

Officers matched the plate to Jose Mercado, 28, and went to his Richards Avenue home, where he pulled in driving a pickup truck with heavy front-end damage and missing a front tire, The Hour said.

Officers then learned of a second hit-and-run crash at Fairfield Avenue and Cedar Street, involving a white pickup with a food trailer for “Ale Coffee Truck and Canteen,” The Hour said.

Both occupants of that vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police told The Hour.

Mercado was charged with evading responsibility, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without insurance and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs as well as assault on a public safety officer after causing a disturbance in his holding cell, police told The Hour.
