Police received many complaints that a driver has been annoying neighbors by revving the motorcycle engine, spinning its tires and taking off at a high rate of speed.
The complaints said the loud motorcycle then travels south on Hope Street, near Putter Drive, police said.
This annoying activity usually occurs in the very early hours and also every morning between 7:30 and 8 a.m., police said. "It is very annoying and troublesome to the community," police said.
Armed with that information, Officer Donald Holden was assigned the task of stopping this activity. On Wednesday morning, Holden set up in the area of Putter Drive and at 7:48 a.m. had his man. He heard and saw a White Suzuki motorcycle revving its engine and taking off at a high rate of speed, police said.
Holden stopped the motorcycle and identified the operator as 21-year-old Tyler Jordan Smith.
Smith said that he does this every day because his mechanic told him that "it’s a good idea to warm up his tires."
"He selfishly forgot that he is waking and annoying everyone in the area," police said.
Smith did not have a motorcycle license or insurance for the bike, police said. He was issued a summons for unsafe movement, operating a motorcycle without an endorsement, and no insurance.
The motorcycle was towed from the scene, and Smith was warned to not to continue this activity in the future.
"This is an excellent example of the community getting together to identify a quality of life issue in their community, and the Stamford Police working with them to rectify the situation," police said. "Nice work by Officer Holden by putting a stop to this annoying and reckless behavior."
