The store contacted police in January after learning that their surveillance video system, which had not been working since December, had been deliberately tampered with, police said. The store also had five Samsung Galaxy phones go missing from a shipment around the time of the malfunction, according to the store’s report.
Five employees had access to the room where the surveillance system was kept, according to the report. One of those employees, Terrell Hicklen, 22, of Lincoln Avenue, had stopped showing up for work in January, the store manager told police.
Hicklen was seen on video near the security system on the day it stopped working, police said. Investigators also found a series of Craigslist ads offering Samsung phones for sale, with Hicklen’s cellphone number listed as the contact, according to the police report.
Hicklen turned himself in Wednesday after learning of a warrant for his arrest. He was charged with third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief, and released on $5,000 bond.
