The Norwalk Fire Department received a report of a structure fire on Sheridan Street at about 2:30 a.m. Friday. When firefighters arrived, the blaze had already spread to the two floors of the house and had begun to ignite the cars parked in the driveway, Deputy Fire Chief Chris King said.
A downed power line also created problems for firefighters at the scene, but the blaze was under control by 3:30 a.m., King said. Firefighters stayed on the scene until 6 a.m. to make sure the fire did not reignite.
No injuries were reported in the incident. But the house was declared unfit for occupancy due to heavy fire damage and disconnected utilities. The American Red Cross arranged for accommodations for the four occupants of the home, King said.
Firefighters believe the fire started in the house’s basement, King added. The Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Office was still investigating the cause of the blaze.
