Officers on patrol in South Norwalk spotted a driver going the wrong way on Haviland Street just after midnight Thursday, police said. They followed the car and pulled over Zachary Weiner, 30, of Bridgeport near the intersection of North Main Street and Marshall Street, police said.
Weiner showed signs of intoxication while talking with officers and failed field sobriety tests at the scene, according to the police report. He later registered a blood alcohol content of 0.13 at police headquarters, police said Thursday. He was charged with driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a one-way street and released on $100 bond.
While officers were waiting at the scene for a tow truck to move Weiner’s car, another driver slammed into the patrol car from behind, causing scrapes along the sides of both vehicles, according to police reports. Chelsea Davis, 22, of Bridgeport also appeared intoxicated while talking with police, and failed field sobriety tests at the scene, police said.
Davis registered a blood alcohol content of 0.22 at police headquarters, according to the arrest report. Police also found that the car she had been driving was not registered, police said.
Davis was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. She was released on $1,000 bond. Both drivers are due in court March 7.
