The bus did not have any passengers in it when it went off the road on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Lowe Street at 7:43 p.m. Monday, police said. The bus was traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when it left the roadway and became wedged between an embankment and a light, police said.

A pedestrian traffic sign went through the windshield of the bus, and a "No Turn on Red" sign was sticking out from underneath the bus, police said.

Police said the driver, a 42-year-old Bridgeport man, was very upset and said he did not know how the accident occurred.

Paramedics arrived on the scene, but the driver refused medical treatment. The driver was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane, and police are investigating the cause of the accident.
