The Norwalk Fire Department responded to reports of a single-car accident near the end of the connector at 9:22 p.m. Monday. The car, a Mazda 3, was traveling north on the connector when it crossed Grist Mill Road and went up an embankment, coming to a rest 25 feet from the roadway, fire officials said.
The driver, a woman in her early 20s, spoke to firefighters and paramedics and complained of neck and back pain. She was taken to Norwalk Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman was fortunate because the Department of Transportation removed a rock wall at the end of the connector in 2008 after several fatal accidents in that spot, fire officials said. The gradual inclining hill was constructed in its place and kept the accident from being more serious, fire officials said.
