DNA Match Leads Police To Suspect In Two Burglaries

NORWALK, Conn. -- Police arrested a Norwalk man after he was a match with DNA found at two burglaries earlier this year.

Ray Flores, 32, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, one count of third-degree larceny and one count of fifth-degree larceny. He was held on $5,000 bond and went to court Tuesday.

The first burglary was reported Jan. 13. A construction crew working on West Avenue reported that a storage trailer used to keep equipment had been burglarized and several items were taken, police said. The Detective Bureau began investigating and were able to collect DNA from the scene.

The second burglary occurred on June 6 at Norwest Marine on Water Street, police said. Employees reported that somebody had stolen tools,police said. In that case the suspect had also left DNA at the scene, which police were able to collect.

Police entered the DNA samples collected at both scenes into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and the samples matched to Flores, police said.

A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody Tuesday.
