At around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 15, the 42-year-old woman came home to find her ex-boyfriend, 42-year-old Eric Barret of Darien, in her home, police said. She said she had seen Barret's car in her designated parking spot when she arrived home, and when she went inside he was standing in the living room holding her iPad, according to police.

She asked Barret how he got into the home, and he said he had used a firefighter's tool to force his way in through the locked back door, police said. She asked him why he was there, and he said that he wanted to know if she was seeing someone else, according to police.

She asked him to leave, which he did. Police said there was no verbal argument or physical contact between the two, and after he left he texted her to say that he had made a mistake and he was sorry.

The woman told police that Barret had gone through her iPad and computer to find out who she was talking to, police said. It appeared that he had gone through her emails, messages, photos, contacts and FaceTime calls to see if she was dating someone, according to police. Officers on the scene saw pry marks on the back door where he had forced entry, police said.

Barret was located and arrested. When speaking with officers, he admitted to used a "shove key" to force entry into the back door, police said. He also said he went through her iPad and computer in an effort to discover information about her personal life and the people she was in contact with, police said.

Barret was charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and fifth degree computer crime. He was released on a $10,000 bond and went to court on May 16.
