NORWALK, Conn. – A 44-year-old Darien woman was arrested on driving under the influence and other charges Tuesday after one of her daughters in the car reported her mother was drunk, Norwalk police said.

Kathryn Sullivan, of Holmes Avenue, had a blood alcohol concentration of .237 on the first test, and .226 on the second test, according to police. Any reading above .08 is considered legally intoxicated in Connecticut.

Sullivan was driving her Lexus 350 sport utility vehicle on Grandview Avenue near Jefferson School in Norwalk when her 15-year-old daughter called a family friend from the car to report that her mother was drunk. Sullivan’s 11-year-old daughter was also in the car at the time of incident, which was just before 8 p.m.

The friend on the phone called the police and convinced Sullivan to pull over and stop, police said, and officers found the three in the vehicle parked in the parking lot by the school.

Sullivan appeared glassy eyed and told officers that she had two drinks earlier in the evening, but she failed three separate roadside sobriety tests. She then said she may have had four drinks, and she was taken into custody, police said.

The daughters, who were visibly upset by the incident, were picked up by the family friend, according to police. While in police custody, Sullivan’s blood alcohol concentration was tested twice, and she registered the .237 and the .226.

Sullivan was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, risk of injury to a minor and driving without insurance. She was released after posting a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on March 7.
