Car Slams Into Pole, Burst Into Flames On Post Road In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. — A driver was able to escape uninjured when his car slammed into a pole and burst into flames on the the Post Road East early Saturday, Westport firefighters said.

The  Westport Fire Department responded the scene of the serious crash at 485 Post Road East at 12:30 a.m. Saturday. 

The car took down a telephone pole and then burst into flames, Westport Fire Capt. Kenneth Lombardi. 

Multiple engine companies and the command car responded to the totally engulfed car fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and kept the nearby power lines and pole from becoming further involved in the fire, he said.

The Post Road was closed for hours while Fire Department secured the scene, Police investigated the crash, and Eversource completed repairs and restored power.
