Car Pulled From Embankment Off Merritt Parkway In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Two women were pulled from a car that had slid down a slope off the side of the Merritt Parkway near the Norwalk-Westport line Tuesday morning. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.

The car ran off the road near exit 40 and traveled about 40 feet down the embankment at about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott said in a news release. The car eventually came to rest on a storm drain culvert above Creeping Hemlock Drive in Norwalk.

The two women inside waited 20 minutes while responders stabilized the car to make sure it would not slide into the water in the culvert, Prescott said. The two were eventually able to climb out of the car and were taken to safety. Both refused medical treatment at the scene, according to the release.

One lane of the parkway was closed until about 10:45 a.m. while a tow truck cleared the accident. The incident is still under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
