The Norwalk Fire Department responded to the fire at 3 p.m. The 2005 Ford Crown Victoria was fully involved in the blaze as firefighters arrived, officials said.

The driver of the car, a Darien taxi, said that he had picked the car up after repairs were made and was heading toward Darien when he noticed flames at his feet. He was able to pull over the shoulder about a half-mile before Exit 13 and safely get out of the car.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, and traffic was reduced to two lanes for about 25 minutes until the car was pulled away.

Fire Inspector Luca Feola is investigating the cause of the fire.
