Norwalk Police intercepted two suspicious packages addressed to a Norwalk residence after a police dog indicated that there might be illegal substances inside, police say. After obtaining a search warrant, police found bags containing 14 pounds of marijuana in the packages, according to police reports.

The street value of the marijuana was estimated at more than $50,000, police say.

Investigators do not believe that the addressee knew what was inside the package. Police found that Edward Walker, 40, of Clear Lake, Calif., has sent the packages to the Norwalk address “under false pretenses,” police say.

An undercover officer made contact with Walker on Wednesday, who agreed to fly to Connecticut to retrieve the boxes, according to police reports. Walker and the undercover officer met on Connecticut Avenue and negotiated a deal for the marijuana, police say. Backup officers then placed Walker under arrest “without incident,” according to the arrest report.

Walker was charged with possession of marijuana, illegal manufacture or distribution of marijuana, possession of drugs within 1,500 feet of a school and intent to sell. He was held on $500,000 bond, and is due in court on Aug. 2.
