Stephanie Wright, 28, was charged with first-degree larceny and third-degree identity theft. She was held on $61,500 bond and will appear in court April 2.

The owner of a Norwalk roofing company alerted police after receiving a letter addressed to his business from TD Bank. The owner said he does not use TD Bank, and contacted the bank to find out why they sent the letter.

After speaking with the employee who had opened the account, the owner discovered that his bookkeeper Wright had opened the account without authorization. According to police, Wright had deposited checks sent to the roofing company into the fake account and had been collecting the money for herself.

Police said that between June and August 2014, $60,668 had been embezzled. She was subsequently fired, and then tried to collect unemployment benefits in November, according to police. Those benefits were denied.

A warrant was issued for Wright's arrest and she was taken into custody in Bridgeport on Tuesday.
