NORWALK, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was charged with trying to break into a bagel shop in Norwalk back in 2014 before employees chased him and an accomplice off, according to the Hour.

Geraldo Basco, 49, was arrested on a warrant Wednesday and charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, the Hour reported. The other suspect in the case, Angel Rodriguez, was arrested in 2015.

The arrest stems from an incident that took place at 3:12 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2014. According to police, employees were making bagels at Village Bagels on Westport Avenue when two men kicked in the door and tried to enter the shop. The employees chased the two men off with a bagel-making tool, and the two men got into a pickup truck and fled, police said.

The truck was spotted on I-95 northbound by state police, who started following it before it got off the highway. It was then followed by police from Fairfield and Bridgeport before losing them, police said. The truck was later found abandoned and police were able to collect DNA samples.

One of the samples matched with Rodriguez, who was taken into custody in March of 2015.

Police also found two shirts near the abandoned truck, and also had surveillance footage of the break-in, according to the Hour. They were able to identify Basco and obtain a warrant for his arrest, the Hour reported.
