Two In Police Custody After Shooting In South Norwalk

Updated 10:15 p.m.

NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk police had two people in custody on Lawrence Street after a report of shots fired in South Norwalk early Wednesday evening.

The two people were held shortly after 7 p.m. as Norwalk police set up a crime scene covering a large part of Woodward Avenue and Sheridan Street. Lawrence Street was blocked shortly thereafter. About 15 police cruisers were on the scene. A witness reported hearing about 10 gunshots and thought the suspects might still be in the area. The police arrived quickly, the witness said.

There did not appear to be any victims of the shooting.

A group of five young men was walking down the middle of the street when three went one way and two went the other, a witness said. Then shots rang out, the witness said. "It's crazy." The witness heard one say he was "scared" while he was talking on a cellphone after the incident.

A passerby said, "These kids are out of their minds. Did you hear what she said? They wanted to kill each other."

Officers were looking in crawlspaces under porches of homes on Lawrence Street and searched an unlocked car.

A witness said at least two cars had been struck by bullets.

Police on the scene refused to confirm and details of the incident Wednesday night. Cruisers remained in the area as of 10 p.m.
