Letter: Norwalk May Face Sad Irony

To the Editor,

It occurred to me that the Educational Cost Sharing formula debate may someday be filed in our collective "be careful what we wish for" folder: a declining and unaccountable education system, the perception AND reality of increased crime, and poor urban planning all combine to result in lower property values, so in the end, won't it be sadly ironic that the current ECS formula will work by default – our grand list might decline so much that our share of state funding will automatically go up ...

I hope the ECS task force heard us loud and clear last week!!!

Gloria:

It's worth noting that West Hartford , a thriving town with great schools and quality of life, receives $2.26 for every tax dollar they send to Hartford. It actually makes no sense whatsoever. Norwalk receives .13. Logic is not working in our state government.

Jane D:

You're right...I guess we want to be compared with the bottom quadrant of CT cities...no matter how they change the formula we're going to have to decrease our grand list (lower property values).
