Yolanda Risko, 87, Longtime Norwalk Resident

NORWALK, Conn. – Yolanda Risko, of Norwalk, died Sunday, March 8 at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center. She was 97.

The daughter of Theresa and John B. Risko, Risko was a longtime resident of East Norwalk. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1935 and worked at Nash Engineering for more than 40 years. She was a faithful lifelong member of East Avenue United Methodist Church in East Norwalk and was a featured soloist with the choirs of Saugatuck Congregational Church, Temple Israel in Westport and Stamford Congregational Church.

Risko also was a longtime member of the Fairfield County Chorale, which performed and toured frequently, including trips to Europe and Japan. She served as a volunteer usher for many years at Westport Country Playhouse and volunteered her time with Norwalk Meals-on-Wheels and the Connecticut Welcome Center at the Darien rest area on the Connecticut Turnpike, earning recognition for her many volunteer activities.

Risko is survived by her sister; one niece and three nephews. She is predeceased by two sisters. Internment at Riverside Cemetery by Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home was performed in a private family ceremony. Risko’s family will welcome visitors at a brief memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21 in the theater at Brookdale Place Senior Living, 96 Danbury Road, Wilton.
