William Robert Yoder, 89, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. - William Robert Yoder of Norwalk died April 19. He was 89.

Yoder was born July 13, 1924, in Tulsa, Okla., and was the son of Edythe Bollinger and Leonard Arner Yoder. He spent most of his growing up years in Ohio; Cincinnati, Lakewood and in North Lima. After serving in the U.S. Army he came home to Stamford and after marriage he settled in Norwalk with his family in 1954.

He began his career as a tool and die maker at Excelsior Hardware in Stamford and retired from Condec in 1985. He also worked some years at Perkin Elmer. Most recently he worked at Seymour's Hardware. He was a founding member of the United Church in West Norwalk, which later merged with South Norwalk Congregational Church to become the United Congregational Church, where he was a longtime choir member and active in other programs.

Yoder is survived by his wife, Dorothy McGown Yoder; children, Rebecca Gammons of Beaverton, Oregon, Kathryn (Robert) Sandberg of Danbury, William M. Yoder of Arlington, Va., and Susan Mendonca of Norwalk; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Carl Yoder of Wilton, Richard Yoder of Calif., and Leonard B. Yoder of N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at United Congregational Church to be announced at the convenience of his family.
