William Egan, 83, Financial Officer, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – William "Bill" M. Egan, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Nov. 24 at Norwalk Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 83.

He was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Claremont, N.H., to William P. and Gladys Matthews Egan. He attended schools in Springfield, Mass., and graduated from Classical High School.

Egan also graduated from Bentley College, where he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1988 and was a member of the Business Ethics Advisory Board.

He worked at Stone & Webster, Inc., for 40 years, serving as chief financial officer for 25 years and on the board of directors for five years.

He was married to Therese Marin Egan for more than 57 years. He was a member of the Florida Council of 100. After his retirement, he was active in the Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE).

Egan served in the Army's 2nd Armored Division and was a member of American Legion Post 430 in Springfield for more than 60 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church for many years and later St. Thomas Church.

He was a past president of Shore and County Club and a member of the New York Athletic Club, Silvermine Golf Club and Norwalk Quartette Club.

Egan is survived by a daughter, Terri (Chris) Bell, of Norwalk; three sons, Bill Egan, of Miami, Dan (Sherry) Egan, of Norwalk, and Mike (Elyse) Egan, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Egan Bokulic.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery.
