NORWALK, Conn. Valerie Jean Tomko of Norwalk died Sunday, Sept. 2, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Conn., with her family at her side. She was 73.
Born July 20, 1939, in Norwalk, she was the daughter of Albert and Myrtle Mahoney Vallerie. She graduated from Mother of God Academy in Stamford and was a longtime member of Christ the King Church in Ridgefield.
Tomko volunteered for Birthright at St. Mary Church in Norwalk for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Karen) Tomko, of Redding, and Paul (Phyllis) Tomko, of East Haven, Conn.; three brothers, Albert Vallerie Jr., of Florida, Edward Vallerie, of Vermont, and Raymond Vallerie, of Norwalk; three sisters, Joanne Vallerie, of Norwalk, Mary Stanis, of Bethel, and Carol Straniti, of Newtown, Conn.; four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Latin Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Church in Ridgefield. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
