Iosifides was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Klitos, Greece, to the Rev. Nikolaos and Parthena Kitmirides, refugees from the area of Pontos in Asia Minor during the population exchange between Turkey and Greece in 1923. Although her circumstances limited her opportunity for formal education, she was well-schooled on the subjects of life, faith, family, community and culture. When in Greece, she was a hardworking mother and homemaker, while at the same time, assisting her husband with farm life.

While her four children were still in their teens, she and her family immigrated to the U.S. in 1969. Her first job in the U.S. was as a factory worker at Caprice Footwear in East Norwalk, and she later worked at Holson Co. Consumer Sales in Wilton before choosing to become a full-time caretaker for her elderly in-laws and many grandchildren.

She was an avid volunteer for St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Norwalk, where she gave lovingly of her time, talent and treasures. She was also very supportive of the Pontian Society in Norwalk, in the perpetuation of her culture and heritage.

In addition to her husband, Konstantinos, Iosifides was predeceased by her first child, Parthena, at the age of 9 months; one daughter-in-law; and seven siblings, three of whom died during the Turkish/Greek exchange before she was born, and four siblings who died subsequently in Greece and the U.S.

She is survived by her four children: Eleni and her husband, Kosta, of Middletown, R.I.; Nopi and her husband, Gus, of Norwalk; Leeza and her husband, Telly, of Middletown, R.I.; and Jimmy of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren;  a sister in Greece; a sister in Tarrytown; and more than 25 nephews and nieces.

Friends and family may call Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 5-8 p.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m.in St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
