Ruth Thorpe Lawrence, 94, Formerly Of Norwalk, Retired Head Secretary

GRANBY, Conn. - Ruth Thorpe Lawrence of Granby died May 1. She was 94.

Lawrence was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Norwalk, daughter to Charles Langston Thorpe and Nora Collins, RN. She sang solo in the choir at St. Mary’s Church, and often worked part time at A.J. Collins Gift Shop. She worked for Machlettes during WWII as a radar tube inspector and was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi study group. Later she retired from the Norwalk Senior Housing Authority as head secretary.

Lawrence is survived by her husband, Stephen; daughter, Denise M. (Paul J.) Girard of Granby; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and sisters, Eileen Travis and Margaret Thorpe.

Calling hours are Monday, May 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Norwalk’s Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall St. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Norwalk.
