Rowayton's Peter George Diamandis, 82, Magazine Publisher

ROWAYTON, Conn. - Peter George Diamandis of Rowayton, a noted magazine publisher, died June 17. He was 82.

Diamandis was born in 1931, in Newark, N.J. He was raised in Short Hills, N.J., and graduated from Millburn High School and Bucknell University. After graduating from Officers Candidate School in Newport, R.I., he served three years on a destroyer in the North Atlantic, retiring as a lieutenant junior grade. He was a 55-year resident of Rowayton.

Diamandis was publisher of Mademoiselle Magazine, New York Magazine and its sister publication New West. He launched Self Magazine in 1980 and was named Marketing Man of the Year by the American Marketing Association. He was the publisher of Woman's Day, the flagship of the CBS Magazines, and was president of CBS Magazines.

He was a member of the board of trustees of Bucknell University and on the advisory board of Norwalk Community College. He served as chairman of the board of the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. He was president of the Magazine Publishers Association and a member of the National Little League Board. He was a longtime member of the United Church of Rowayton.

Diamandis is survived include his wife, Joan: daughter, Holly Diamandis of Rowayton; sons, Peter Diamandis of Salt Lake City, Christian Diamandis of Las Vegas, and Cameron, Alexander and Jason Diamandis of Rowayton; 10 grandchildren; and brother, George of Clearwater, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 11 at the United Church of Rowayton. A reception will follow at Woodway Country Club. Interment will be private.
