Robert L. Bastoni, 85, Former Norwalk Resident

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Robert L. Bastoni, of Punta Gorda, Fla. formerly of Norwalk, Conn., died Oct. 5. He was 85.

Bastoni was born April 3, 1928. He graduated from Plymouth, Mass. High School in 1945. He spent 13 years in various positions in the textile manufacturing industry before moving to the New York City metro area and joining J P Stevens as chief textile designer. Upon moving to Connecticut, he spent the next 33 years as a textile executive holding many international roles which took him around the world. In 1972, he formed a partnership with Mitsubishi, the world's largest and leading trading company. He held senior executive positions at Burlington Industries and retired as the president of Worcester Textile Mills. He was a member of Shore & Country Club.

Bastoni is survived by his children, John Bastoni of Fremont, N.H., James Bastoni of San Antonio, Texas, Pete Bastoni of New Orleans, La., Nicole Bastoni of Norwalk, Conn., and Ann Bastoni Randall; brother, Henry; 12 grandchildren; and former wives, Ginny Marois and Kimberly Snyder Bastoni. He was predeceased by his his son, Gerald Bastoni; and brother, Edwin Bastoni.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at The Assumption Church of Westport in Westport, Conn.,  and at St. Peter's Parish, Plymouth, Mass., Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bastoni’s honor to: Green Hills Farm & Community, c/o interfaith council of southwestern CT P.O. Box #17262, Stamford, CT 06907.

The Glastonbury Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
