Rita LiVolsi, 77, East Norwalk Native, Actor, Teacher

NORWALK, Conn. -- Rita Elizabeth LiVolsi died on Monday, Jan. 12, at St. Camillus Nursing Home in Stamford. She was 77.

LiVolisi was born Nov. 20, 1937, to Peter and Amelia Ferrandino of East Norwalk.

Rita was born and raised in East Norwalk until she left home for college. She attended Albertus Magnus College in New Haven where she studied French and Italian as well as the performing arts and received her bachelor's degree.

While in New Haven, she acted in a play with Dick Cavett. After college she was a teacher of French and Italian language until she left her career to start a family. She always had a love of music and later she became a professional singer, performing with the Lou Anderson Band in Westchester County, N.Y., as well as numerous night clubs in Manhattan. She also sang backup with Peter, Paul & Mary.

She is survived by her children, Victoria Perfido, Alex Perfido (Kristi), Alexa Tartaglia and Mara Perfidoher; sister, Dorothy Bottone and brother, Peter P. Ferrandino. She is also survivied by three grandsons. The family extended thanks to Benjamin Whitaker, a friend and resident of St. Camillus, who frequently comforted LiVolsi.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., East Norwalk, 10 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 15, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
