Richard DeAngelis, 85, Retired Norwalk Police Sergeant

NORWALK, Conn. – Richard "Rocky" Joseph DeAngelis of Norwalk died Dec. 6 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 85.

DeAngelis was a former Norwalk police sergeant, Stamford Courthouse sheriff and a special officer for the Westport Police Department.

He was born March 18, 1927, in Norwalk Hospital, to  f Mario and Amelia DeAngelis. He was a lifelong Norwalk resident and served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

He joined the Norwalk Police Department in 1957 and retired 30 years later. DeAngelis then worked for the halfway house in Norwalk and as a sheriff at the Stamford Courthouse.

DeAngelis went on to serve as a special officer for the Westport Police for 17 years, until 2005.

His favorite pastime was collecting classic cars. He was a member of the Coachman Rod and Custom Car Club in Norwalk for many years. 

He is survived by his wife, Angela DeFlorio DeAngelis; a son, Richard DeAngelis Jr., of Norwalk; a sister, Angelina Spanoghe; three stepchildren, Frank, Pamela and Mary Ann; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Parkway Assembly of God in Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
