Rev. Ramon Figueroa, 86, Former Longtime Norwalk Resident, Police Chaplain

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Reverend Ramon Figueroa, formerly of Norwalk, Conn., died Wednesday, Aug. 7. He was 86.

Rev. Figueroa was born April 4, 1927, in Lajas Puerto Rico.  He moved to New York, N.Y. and lived most of his life in Norwalk, Conn., and in recent years, retired to Coconut Creek a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, where he continued to be active within the Spanish Assembly of God Fellowship of Florida.

Rev. Figueroa moved to Connecticut in 1954 and started the Assembly of God Pentecostal John 3:16 Church, Norwalk’s first Spanish speaking church. He also founded the Bible Institute of Norwalk.  He was the Norwalk police chaplain for many years and served as commissioner of the Norwalk Housing Department. 

Rev. Figueroa is survived by his wife, Gloria Figueroa; daughter, Damaris Figueroa of New York, N.Y.; sons, Raymond Figueroa (Linda) of Las Vegas Nev., Joe Figueroa (Angela) of Middleton, Mass, David Figueroa (Dorothy) of Norwalk, Daniel Figueroa (Judy) of Bethel; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many family members.

Calling hours are Saturday, Aug.10 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.  A second viewing will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. at John 3:16 Pentecostal Church, 8 Woodward Ave., Norwalk, Conn., followed at 5 p.m. by a celebration service.  A Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, beginning with a brief service at the church, followed by an interment ceremony at Saint John’s Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT 06850.
