Rev. Dan Mariano, 78, Of Norwalk, Senior Pastor, Parkway Assembly Of God

NORWALK, Conn. - Dan Mariano of Norwalk died Thursday, Oct. 9. He was 78.

Mariano was born Jan. 3, 1936. He graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo. Upon graduation, he became the senior pastor at the Assembly of God church in Nixa, Mo., where he served for three years. He then came to Southern New England, where he was a pastor in Guilford for 12 years. He was the senior pastor at Parkway Assembly of God in Norwalk where he has served for 42 years until his retirement.

He received his master’s degree in criminal justice from Yale University. At Yale, he taught on the Holy Spirit and led Bible studies at Bush House. He was the district youth director and director of Home Missions and served as a presbyter for the Southern New England District of the Assemblies of God.

He served on the board of the Walter Hoving Home, a teen challenge affiliated ministry for women, for over 40 years. He was ordained with the Assemblies of God International Fellowship and has served on the Board of Elders for the past 10 years. In January 2014, he was chosen to serve as the president of AGIF.

Mariano is survived by his wife, Patti; son, Daniel F. Mariano (Heidi Perna) of Norwalk; four grandchildren; sister, Rose Re; brother, Joseph Mariano; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Judith Diane Shamel Mariano; daughter, Dina Mariano; and siblings, Grace Re, Emily Thomas, Anthony Mariano, Peter Mariano, David Mariano and Angelo Mariano.

Services will be held Monday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. with burial following in Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave., Norwalk.
