Rev. Clifford Hill Jr., 74, Norwalk Resident

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Rev. Clifford H. Hill, Jr., 74, died on Aug. 31.

He was born in Milledgeville, Ga., and raised in Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y. He is the son of Clifford H. Hill Sr. and Carole Bradford Hill. 

He received a bachelor of science degree from Boston University and was a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Spiritual Life Ministerial Seminary, in Minneapolis.

He became the first African-American corporate officer at Target stores and then at Caldor of Norwalk. 

Hill pastored the St. James AME Church of Danbury for many years and lived in Norwalk with his wife Ketleen L. Hill. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children: Karen King, Christine Hill, Melissa Baird, Mary Hill, Clifford Hill III, Jimmy Coffey, Montford Naylor and Zakary Joseph; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a niece Shannon Johnson; a nephew Robert Hill; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. 

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a service of celebration at 10 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 19 Academy St., Norwalk. The Rev. Richard Wesley Clarke will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford. Services are entrusted to Downer Funeral Home.
